On January 30th I flew to the West Coast (for the second time) for a solo exhibition at the Sequential Art Gallery in Portland Oregon. What a trip! Portland is a beautiful city and I think it may be a Mecca for comic artist. They're everywhere. I was fortunate enough to be accompanied by my sister and her boyfriend who were eager to visit the city and support my exhibition. Before checking out the gallery we explored the country side and found our way to Mount Hood.
Chillin in front of the hood. * Note that both chillin and hood are used literally here.
Dave and Leah were my travel buddies. Aren't they adorable?
We made our way up to the Timbarland Lodge which aparently was the location where the Shining was filmed. We ended up eating lunch there and enjoyed the scenery.
In Portland there is an event every month called First Thursdays where all of the galleries open their doors on the first Thursday of every month and have and opening exhibition for their new shows. My exhibition was titled Pourng Concrete. This is the front entrance to the gallery.
Kaebel Hashitani is the gallery owner who greeted me and showed me around. Kaebel is just an all around great guy and amazing host. My friend Alex Cahill, from the New Radio, hung the show with Kaebel before I came out to the opening.
This picture makes it appear that I am really upset but what I am actually doing is scanning Kaebel's thoughts using an ancient Sicilian telepathic mind probe.
Aw what a guy.Kaebel you rock!
Example of the hanging style. Modest but effective. I provided duplications of the printed pages to compare with the original inked boards.
The turn out was really impressive. Everyone is used to First Thursdays, so if the weather is good, people tend to come up in large numbers.
Me talking with Mathew Clark, who is currently drawing Superman.
The 2 Rowdy Crew in full effect. Power in numbers people, if you don't get what I am talking about than you better figure it out because you are going to miss a train that is only leaving once. My man Alex Cahill tearin up the comics world and takin names.
And no trip would be complete with hitting the bins. It always feels good to go back to your roots. I would like to thank Portland for its hospitality. I would like to especially thank Alex, Soren, Jad, Farel, Philip, Kaebel, and the who crew for the Sequential Gallery. Big ups to my sister Leah and Dave for holdin it down and showin love to a brother.
